Weekend Recap {anniversary in NOLA}

So we have officially been married for a year as of yesterday!  I must say, I can't believe a year has flown by since we started out on this journey together.  We have had ups and downs this year; Bryan's dad passing away, my mom being sick, settling into a new life in Houston, starting exciting new jobs, and adopting Barley!  Without Bryan in my life as my husband and most importantly, my best friend, we wouldn't have gotten through the rough times and been able to celebrate and enjoy the best times!

*ahem sappy part over*  So we went to New Orleans for the weekend, left Friday morning and came back last night (one more day would have been ideal), and we had an AMAZING time.  Neither of us had ever been and now I think we can't wait to go back.  So here, to summarize, are multiple photo collages:

Cafe du Monde beignets & coffee (excellent.), anniversary glitter on our table at Arnaud's Saturday night, walking Bourbon Friday afternoon & evening.  Dinner at Arnaud's Saturday to properly celebrate.
(don't worry guys...food pics are below!)

Bryan had gumbo, shrimp and grits, and creme brulee.  I had the Arnaud's salad, pork tenderloin with truffle mashed potatoes (duhh when don't I try and eat truffled things?), and pecan pie.  Um I had never had pecan pie before guys....what's wrong with me? It's delicious and perfect and I want more.

Because we are us, we obviously had lots of drinks too:  Ketel & soda (my go-to), a nice red blend, a grenade (because you have to, right?), and a beer sampling at a local brewery.

So the upper right is the restaurant we ate at Saturday evening, and the other three are of the outside courtyard/building of the apartment we stayed in.  Let me say that Airbnb did NOT disappoint!  The place we stayed at was super cute, very charming, and gave us a really awesome local experience for half the price of a hotel.  We were walking distance (5 minutes) to Bourbon, 10 minutes to Cafe du Monde, and 10 minutes to the streetcar stops near Canal.  Amazing.

This is my "sightseeing" collage.  Streetcar we took the the WWII museum (oh yes, btw it POURED rain all day Saturday so we couldn't do the cemetery tour we wanted to do.), a beautiful and wonderful second line wedding parade!  It was so fun to see, and seriously I almost cried it was so great to see the bride and groom's family ready to celebrate with them!  And everyone had the great umbrellas you see to beat the rain!
Ok so there I am doing my creep face in front of Marie LaVeau's voodoo house....excuse the red wine teeth. Our place was next to a voodoo temple, I'll be honest I was a little sketched, but we bought glass rings at Marie LaVeau's because we are tourists and they're a cute and cheap reminder of our trip.

There is a copy of FDR's speech the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked.  The WWII museum was incredibly powerful and moving, I would recommend it to anyone who even remotely enjoys history. Very informative and lots of amazing pieces on display to see.  Really gave you an accurate feel for what an undertaking the war was.

Finally, Jackson Square and the Saint Louis cathedral.  Gorgeous.

So a final few pics--Bryan's alligator burger with slaw, me unlocking the Historian Level 5 badge because I'm a history badass and there's no debating that now....internet agrees, y'all!

My peanut butter-bacon-green tomato double cheeseburger.  Everyone go put peanut butter on your burger now!  This stuff is made for being on burgers.  This is the second time I've had one so yes, I'm also an expert on this, and foursquare would badge me if they could.

Bryan & I at Cafe du Monde on our rainy Saturday morning, and finally, the perfectly cork wine menu at Patrick's Bar Vin, where we spent a couple hours post-dinner Saturday enjoying some delightful reds.

So there it is y'all....we also bought souvenir for our niece and nephew (alligator jerky, a mardi gras mask, pralines, and voodoo dolls), got ourselves an original photograph by a local artist to frame to remember our trip, and just basically had a great weekend enjoying ourselves and celebrating one year of marriage and great things!

Wifing Win

I don't always feel like I "win" as a wife. In fact, I rarely even think of myself as a wife...that's for old people!

But it turns out I am, and have been one for almost a year now. We hit 9 months on Saturday...so in honor of that, I give you a huge win.

So, Bryan has these Abercrombie and Fitch pants.  He has had them for somewhere between 6-7 years.

The bottoms of them were SO raggedy. Strings everywhere, holes.  I wish I had a photo.

Sunday night he decided (after I mentioned it for the 100th time how gross they looked) that he would cut them off into sweatpants.

To "celebrate", we took the cut off bottoms and put them on our heads...like when Michael Scott on "The Office" goes all Survivorman and turns his dress pants into a hat in the woods!

K so I was celebrating...he was sad.

*cue Charlie Brown music*

No really though, I think he likes them better now!

Happy Tuesday everyone, may you all have a small life win today!!

Dog Hair Is An Accessory

What do you and your sig other do that's just crazy?

That's the question three fab ladies posed to the blog world, and I'm sure they're going to get some great shit on people.

We have lived together since July 2011, and at that time, I wasn't working (shocker, right?  Y'all are just like, does this girl ever work? Has she ever had a job where she received a W-2?) and he was, but then I started commuting about 3x a week to Chicago at night for grad school from Milwaukee, driving back and forth.  So we didn't totally cross paths a lot because he worked 4 am - noon.  We got a couple quality nights a week, but nothing where we were fully exposed to weird habits.

But now, oh now, we are married.  The paper has been signed, rings are exchanged and we're both stuck with each other's filthy-weird habits.

If you read Bryan's post on me the other day, A Q&A with the Mr., you got a pretty good feel for how weird I am.  Seriously I think he better describes me than I could ever describe myself and for now, that post stands as a legit representation of my blog!

My crazy:
  • I leave Kleenexes everywhere.  I blow my nose on the couch, and basically forget about it somewhere on the couch.  I've also been known to fall asleep holding a used Kleenex.
  • I also fall asleep CLUTCHING my glasses.  This is such an extreme problem that I have sleeping glasses and life glasses.
  • I basically freak out if the dishwasher is full and the sink is full, and everything is dirty.  But then I just hate unloading clean dishes, so I leave it and give up.
  • I buy books on my Kindle using our joint checking debit card and then feign disbelief when asked the next day that I just bought the new Dan Brown novel at 1:00 am.
  • Sometimes, when Bryan is sleeping, I will put my finger under his nose to make sure he is breathing...and sometimes I will stick a little bit of my hair by his nose to sleep-tickle him and really make sure he's alive.  This is bitchy, but also kinda funny, and then when we're both awake I let him do it back to me so we can be even.
His crazy:
  • Socks.  He just takes socks off anywhere and actually throws them.  Says it's a "release" or cleansing routine.  I just find socks everywhere.
  • Bryan will leave a dirty dinner plate on the coffee table (b/c that's where we eat, yes) for like, days.  I cannot stannnndddd this.  How can I use my coffee table for holding a glass of water in the morning if there is a dirty plate on it?  I've wizened up and now I just clear our plates to the sink at night when I'm done eating.
  • He takes really, really, really long showers sometimes.  I'm happy to have such a clean husband, but honestly, sometimes I feel like I am not clean enough because why does anyone need a 30 minute shower?
  • Sometimes I have to force-wash his jeans and polos.  Like, he won't just put them in the laundry basket, but tries to re-wear polos for weeks to work that haven't been washed.  Sometimes when he's at work, I will go through everything in the closet, smell it, and wash it if I deem necessary!  And guess what? It's a delightfully received surprise.
  • He quizzes me on if I bought books on my Kindle late at night the next day!!! Just incredible. The nerve.  Yes, I did buy a book called, "Tout Sweet", and no, I have not read it yet, and I'm not fully sure what it's about.  I also got a short called, "The Great American Foreclosure Crisis" because I am a huge nerd.
So, what do you and your significant other do that is just weird, funny, or out there?  Link up with Dog Hair is an AccessoryAnother Clean Slate, and The Pinot Project to share all of your favorite crazies!
